When we bought our house about 8 months ago, I feel in love with it because of the backyard. It was the perfect space, but it definitely needed some major rehab.
The deck was a mess, rotting in parts and over-grown with weeds. The pool needed a definite cleaning, but we were very lucky that they had just replaced the pump. And in general the landscaping was a hot mess.
…Not to mention the house was pink!
We couldn’t just let it be, we had a bunch of people coming down to Florida from up north, and we wanted to have a great “Florida House” to welcome them to, so in March (1 month before the wedding) we started the new deck and makeover. We hired a contractor to build it, and made it bigger then the rotted one that was there before. It’s 10 feet wide now, instead of 8. The next decision was what color… Do we stain it? Leave it natural? Well in a moment of craziness, I decided it had to be painted green. A bright, grass green. When I told Dave and the contractor that green was the final decision I thought they might commit me… None had ever seen a green deck before. Well neither had I, but here was my reasoning…
When I feel in love with the yard, I fell in love with the vast greenness. The yard is completely private with lots of trees, there’s tons of grass, and It is deceptively large. When approaching the house from the front, you’d never suspect a backyard this open. I really didn’t want to loose that. Then I thought, people who live on the ocean have infinity pools, so the edge of the pool blends in with the ocean backdrop behind it. I don’t want a brown deck to break up the vast greenness behind it… IDEA: A Green Deck! an “infinity” deck of sorts…
And it worked! I love the illusion and the bright openness it brings! What do you think? Would you paint a deck green or another bright color?
Thank you for featuring me!
